Watercolor Drawing Workshop

Join us for a unique watercolor drawing workshop inspired by the artistry of Aurelio del Muro, a Mexican-born artist and musician renowned for his diverse artistic journey. From stone carving to figure drawing, Aurelio’s work is a testament to the transformative power of art.

About the workshop:

In this workshop, participants will explore the techniques and themes that define Aurelio’s work. We’ll delve into his figure drawing, and how he uses charcoal and ink to bring his visions to life. Participants will be guided to create their own watercolor pieces, drawing inspiration from Aurelio’s large-scale murals, particularly his mural inspired by Julia de Burgos’ poem, “Rio Grande de Loiza.”

This workshop is open to all levels, from beginners to advanced artists. It’s a great opportunity to learn, create, and be inspired. Don’t miss out on this chance to paint your own masterpiece!

This workshop is for adults only. Registration is required, as space is limited to a small number of participants. 

About the Artist

Aurelio del Muro is an artist and musician born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, and moved to New York City in 1978. For many years, Aurelio focused on stone carving using only a hammer and chisel as his tools, influenced by the Abstract Expressionism school under the guidance of Sculptor Philip Pavia. In 2002, Aurelio transitioned to figure drawing with charcoal and ink. His career has been diverse, including roles as a social worker, counselor, ESOL teacher for adults, sculpture instructor, janitor, and teaching artist. In August 2020, he settled into a spacious art studio in the Bronx, which spurred him to produce large-scale drawings. By 2022, alongside painter Marta Blair, he completed a mural in the Morrisania area of the Bronx, taking inspiration from Julia de Burgos' poem, "Rio Grande de Loiza." In August 2023, he finished a mural for LEAP, a New York City art organization. In October 2023, he contributed to a mural initiative by the Hispanic Society, aiming to connect with the Washington Heights community. Beyond visual arts, Aurelio is part of the Mexican Folk Music ensemble "Son Pecadores," playing the violin and Jarana, a traditional stringed instrument.
