Naming the Lost Memorials
A five-year public art project honoring those who died from COVID-19

Since May 2020, a small team of artists, activists, and folklorists has been curating COVID-19 memorial sites in New York City to name victims of the COVID-19 pandemic. Each year, NTLM invites up to 30 partner organizations, representing NYC communities most impacted by the ongoing effects of the pandemic, to participate in the project through a series of workshops leading to the creation of annual, public memorials.

NTLM is a project sponsored by City LoreMano a Mano: Mexican Culture Without BordersGreat Small Works and Green-Wood Cemetery. As part of The Monuments Project, the Mellon Foundation provided a major grant to support this work. The New-York Historical Society will archive selected artwork from these ephemeral memorials for future exhibitions and research into the impact of the pandemic.
